§ Allergen Notice

Who should patch-test. Who should skip it.

BUTTR is formulated for reactive skin — but the ingredient list isn't right for everyone. Here's the honest read.

What's in the jar.

Ten ingredients, fully disclosed. INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) names in italics.

  1. Tallow (Adeps Bovis)
  2. Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii)
  3. Raw Honey (Mel)
  4. Olive Fruit Oil (Olea Europaea)
  5. Sea Buckthorn Oil (Hippophae Rhamnoides)
  6. Oat Kernel Flour (Avena Sativa)
  7. Calendula Flower Extract (Calendula Officinalis)
  8. Roman Chamomile Flower Oil (Anthemis Nobilis)
  9. Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice
  10. Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera)

Known allergens.

Every ingredient in BUTTR has a known allergen profile in some population. Patch-test on the inside of your forearm and wait 24 hours before using anywhere else if you fit any of the following:

Bovine allergy
Tallow is rendered beef fat. If you have a known allergy to beef or bovine-derived products (including lanolin cross-reactivity), this product is not for you.
Tree nut allergy
Shea butter is derived from the shea tree nut. The FDA exempts refined shea oil from major-allergen labeling, but raw shea butter can trigger reactions in people with confirmed tree nut allergies. Patch-test.
Bee products
Raw honey may contain trace pollen, propolis, and bee-derived proteins. Skip if you have an anaphylactic bee allergy.
Ragweed family (Asteraceae)
Calendula, chamomile, and aloe can cross-react with ragweed, daisy, or marigold sensitivities. Patch-test if you've reacted to anything in this plant family.
Oat / gluten
Oat kernel flour is gluten-containing by default (shared-facility wheat contamination is possible). Topical oat is generally well-tolerated even by celiac customers — but if you have a severe oat contact allergy specifically, avoid.
Coconut
Coconut is classified as a tree nut by the FDA for labeling purposes, though it's botanically a drupe. True coconut allergy is rare but exists — skip if confirmed.

How to patch-test.

  1. Warm a pea-sized amount between your fingertips.
  2. Apply to the inside of your forearm, roughly two inches from the crease of your elbow.
  3. Don't cover the area. Wait 24 hours.
  4. If you see no redness, itching, or swelling, proceed to use elsewhere. If you see any of the above, discontinue and wash the area with a neutral soap.

Pregnancy and nursing.

BUTTR contains Roman chamomile and calendula at cosmetic concentrations that have a long history of traditional use during pregnancy and nursing. If you're being extra-cautious, check with your OB before use. We can provide the full fragrance-component breakdown on request.

General cautions.

Do not apply in or near eyes. Do not apply to broken skin or open wounds. If you have a skin condition with a clinical diagnosis and prescribed treatment, BUTTR is a supplement to your routine, not a replacement — talk to your dermatologist.

If you experience a reaction to BUTTR, discontinue immediately and contact us at hello@buttrbeauty.com. We want to hear about it — reactions inform future batches. 30-day return, open or unopened, no questions asked.
