Ingredients

What is tallow, exactly?
Tallow is the rendered fat of a ruminant animal — for us, grass-fed and grass-finished beef. It's a traditional skincare base used for thousands of years. We source it from U.S. family farms, render it slowly at low heat, and infuse it with nine supporting plant ingredients.
Does it smell like beef?
No. Properly rendered grass-fed tallow is near-odorless. What you'll smell from BUTTR is the chamomile and calendula infusions — faint herbal, nothing more. No synthetic fragrance.
Is there an unscented version?
Our current formula has no synthetic fragrance — the scent is naturally crisp, light, and clean. What you'll notice is a faint herbal note from the chamomile and calendula infusions, nothing more. Use

Can I use it on my face?
Yes. Many customers use it exclusively on face. Warm a pea-sized amount between your fingers, press into skin, and give it 60-90 seconds to absorb. It's non-comedogenic for most skin types, but patch-test first if you have acneic skin.
How long does a jar last?
A 2.7 oz jar lasts roughly 8 weeks if you're using it on face plus a few target patches, or 4 weeks if you're applying it full-body. Our subscribe-and-save cadence is monthly.

Claims

Will this heal my eczema?
We can't say that — the FDA classifies "heal eczema" as a drug claim and BUTTR is a cosmetic, not a drug. What we can say: the fatty-acid profile of grass-fed tallow closely matches human sebum, which is why it's well-tolerated on eczema-prone skin. Many of our customers describe meaningful improvement in their reviews. Read those reviews, read our science piece on oleic acid, and decide for yourself.
Is it hypoallergenic?
"Hypoallergenic" is not an FDA-regulated term, so we don't use it. What we can say: the 10-ingredient formula excludes the most common irritants — parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrance, essential oil blends, petroleum, phenoxyethanol, artificial color. If you have a known sensitivity to lanolin or bovine products, patch-test first.

Sourcing

Is the tallow grass-fed and grass-finished?
Yes. This is important. Grass-fed and grain-finished cattle produce tallow with a lower concentration of the fatty acids your skin wants. Our sourcing farms are A Greener World-certified and audited for 100% pasture feeding through finishing.

30 days, no questions asked, jar open or unopened. If it doesn't work for your skin, email us and we'll refund the full purchase price. You don't need to ship the jar back. Free US shipping on orders over $50.
